If you're over 40, there's something happening in your arteries right now that you can't feel, can't see, and won't know about until it's a problem.
It's called plaque. And by the time most people find out they have it, it's already been building for decades.
Here's what I want you to know before your next physical: in a randomized clinical trial, researchers put a natural enzyme head-to-head against simvastatin, one of the most prescribed statins in the world. After 26 weeks, the enzyme group saw a 36.6% reduction in carotid artery plaque. The statin group saw 11.5%.
That's not a typo. That's published, peer-reviewed research on an enzyme called nattokinase, and it's the reason I've built my entire cardiovascular protocol around it for over 20 years in clinical practice.
But here's what almost nobody talks about: nattokinase is only half the equation. Used alone, you're cleaning up the damage without addressing what caused it in the first place.
Let me explain exactly what's happening in your arteries, and why I never use nattokinase by itself with a single one of my clients.

Research Study Publication: Journal of Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, Effective Management of Atherosclerosis Progress and Hyperlipidemia with Nattokinase.

My name is Dr. Stephen Cabral. I'm a Board Certified Doctor of Naturopathy, and over the past two decades I've conducted more than 250,000 client appointments.
I didn't get into this work because I read about it in a textbook. I got into it because at 17 years old, I went through a health crisis that sent me to over 50 doctors and through more than 100 treatment protocols before I found real answers.
That experience is why I've spent my career looking past the symptom and asking what's actually driving it. And when it comes to heart health, almost everyone is looking in the wrong place.

My wife starting taking this for high cholesterol and it seems to have helped her lower her total cholesterol by 10-20 points.

Bob C.

The common story: cholesterol builds up in your arteries, forms plaque, and eventually causes a heart attack. So the solution is to lower cholesterol, usually with a statin.
Here's what's actually happening: your arteries have an inner lining called the endothelial tissue. Seed oils, processed foods, microplastics, and chronic stress damage that lining over years, sometimes decades. Your body sends cholesterol to patch the damaged site, the way your skin sends collagen to close a wound. Over time, that patch hardens. That's plaque.
Cholesterol isn't the villain. It's the first responder. The inflammation underneath it is the actual problem.
At the same time, a protein called fibrin starts accumulating in your bloodstream. Fibrin is supposed to be temporary. It's a byproduct of normal clotting. But chronic inflammation and toxin exposure cause it to build up faster than your body clears it out. Under a microscope, it looks like fine hairs floating through the blood.
I know because I've looked. In my Boston-area practice, I used live blood microscopy with clients directly, drawing a sample and showing them, in real time, the fibrin in their own blood. Then I'd bring them back six to eight weeks later, after starting them on the right protocol, and show them the difference.
That's not a hypothetical. That's what I watched happen, client after client, for over 20 years.

Nattokinase is derived from natto, a fermented soy food eaten in Japan for centuries. Once it's extracted, there's no soy protein left in the final enzyme, which is why it's well tolerated even by people managing soy sensitivities elsewhere in their diet.
What nattokinase does is dissolve fibrin directly. It's measured in fibrinolytic units (FU), and the clinical research uses a dose in the 6,000 to 10,800 FU range. In the study I mentioned above, 10,000 FU per day for 26 weeks outperformed a standard statin dose on plaque reduction (36.6 vs. 11.5 plaque reduction), while also raising HDL (the protective cholesterol) in a way the statin group did not.
But here's the part almost every viral post about nattokinase leaves out:
Fibrin and plaque are downstream. They're the result of inflammation, not the cause of it. If you spend years dissolving fibrin without ever addressing the inflammatory damage that's producing it in the first place, you're mopping a floor without turning off the tap.
That's why I always pair nattokinase with serrapeptase.

I keep them on my bedside table so I don't forget them first thing in the morning. My naturopathic physician told me to never stop taking them. Another awesome product from EquiLife. Thank you!

Serrapeptase is derived from an enzyme originally isolated from silkworms. I call it the inflammation cleaner, because that's exactly what it does. It breaks down dead and necrotic tissue, helps the body clear abnormal masses, and modulates systemic inflammation, in the arterial wall, in joints, in sinuses, wherever it's needed.
The clinical minimum I use in practice is 15,000 SPUs (serrapeptase units) per day.
When used together, nattokinase dissolves the fibrin and plaque while serrapeptase reduces the inflammation and damaged proteins that are creating more of both. One without the other is an incomplete strategy.
That’s why I've used them together with clients for over 20 years.

There's a third enzyme I add for a reason that goes beyond the cardiovascular system entirely: protease.
Protease is a protein-dissolving enzyme. Taken on an empty stomach, it isn't digesting your breakfast, it's circulating systemically, breaking down abnormal proteins wherever it finds them. That includes proteins that have leaked through a compromised gut lining into your bloodstream, a mechanism that shows up again and again in autoimmune and chronic inflammatory conditions.

Rutin is a bioflavonoid antioxidant that reinforces capillary walls and scavenges free radicals. It's not a fibrinolytic enzyme like the other two, but it supports the same system from a different angle, protecting the vascular structure while the enzymes clear out what shouldn't be there.

For years, getting this right meant sourcing nattokinase from one company, serrapeptase from another, checking doses, checking for fillers, and hoping the potency held up. That's not realistic for most people, and it wasn't realistic for my clients either.
So I built Proteolytic Enzymes: 10,000 FU of nattokinase, 15,000+ SPU of serrapeptase, a protease blend, and rutin, all in one formula, third-party tested, at the clinical doses I've used in my own practice for two decades.
This isn't a proprietary blend where you can't see what you're getting. Every dose is on the label.

Simply take 2 capsules on an empty stomach, upon waking, at least 30 minutes before food or coffee.
This matters more than people realize: taken with a meal, your body treats these as digestive enzymes and puts them to work on your breakfast instead of sending them into systemic circulation. Taken empty stomach, they're absorbed and go to work throughout your bloodstream, your joints, and your sinuses.
This is meant to be a 6-to-12-month commitment. Arterial changes happen over months, not days. Most people notice shifts in energy, circulation, and joint comfort well before that, but if you want to see it in your labs, recheck your markers at the 6-month mark.
One note: both nattokinase and serrapeptase have mild blood-thinning properties. If you're on an anticoagulant or blood thinner, talk to your doctor before starting.

You can, but you'd only be addressing half the mechanism. Nattokinase dissolves existing fibrin and plaque. Serrapeptase reduces the inflammation that's producing more of it. Used alone, nattokinase is playing defense against an offense that never stops. That's why every protocol I've run in practice for the last 20 years uses both together.
Talk to your doctor first, especially if you're on a blood thinner or anticoagulant, since both core enzymes have natural blood-thinning properties. For most other cardiovascular medications, there's no known conflict, but your physician should always have the final say.
Nattokinase is extracted from fermented soy (natto), but the extraction process removes the soy protein itself, leaving only the enzyme. Most people with soy sensitivities tolerate it well. If you have a severe soy allergy, talk to your doctor before starting.
Some people notice shifts in energy, sinus comfort, or joint stiffness within a few weeks. The arterial changes are the slower story—that's a 6-to-12 month process, which is why we recommend rechecking labs at the 6-month mark if you want to see it measured. Remember, the studies were 26 weeks long.
Most of what's trending is nattokinase alone, often underdosed at 2,000–5,000 FU instead of the clinically studied range. This formula gives you the full clinical dose of nattokinase (10,000 FU) plus the serrapeptase, protease, and rutin most single-ingredient products leave out entirely.
